Site History

The Bannister Site is located in Forsyth County, Georgia north of Atlanta.  The main channel, Brewton Creek, was dredged through an alluvial terrace in the 1930's and 1950's.  Subsequent meander migration of the stream resulted in severe lateral bank erosion and extreme sedimentation.  Brewton Creek drains directly to the Etowah River immediately downstream of the site which is home to the federally endangered Etowah darters.

Restoration
Wolf Creek Engineering provided design, plan preparation and construction oversight for the restoration of over 9,870 feet of Brewton Creek, Bannister Creek, and two tributaries.  Bannister and Brewton Creeks are low gradient streams that meander through an alluvial terrace adjacent to the Etowah River.  Construction activities involved over 43,000 cubic yards of earthwork in order to reconstruct the channels and installation of rock and log vanes to provide channel stability and improve habitat.  Construction was performed by North State Environmental, Inc and completed in December of 2008.
